The Badge of the St. Andrew's Societyof Baltimore was created by Life Member RICHARD SUTH£RLAND GARY FSA (Scot) in 1968 and was subsequently adopted by the Society in 1973.The "BUCKLE & STRAP" surrounding the marshaled arms is consistent with Scottish heritage in that Clansmen wore his Chief's Crest encircled by a "Buckle & Strap." Within the strap traditionally appears the Chief's Motto, in our case it identities the Society, "ST. ANDREW'S SOCIETY, BALTIMORE, MARYLAND".
Circled by the buckle & strap are the marshaled arms of the national flag of Scotland, or Saltair, the arms of the Crossland Family over the arms of the Calvert Family. The quartered arms are those of Lord Baltimore, founder of Maryland in 1632 and from whom the City of Baltimore took its name in 1797. Crossland was the family of the mother of the First Lord Baltimore and the Calvert Family name.
The THISTLE, Scotland's national plant badge, is found in a wreath on each side.
Inscribed in the ribbon is "1806," the year of the founding of the Society, on either side of the word "PRIOMH," pronounced "preev" and translated as "First." The Society was the first chartered St. Andrew's Society in Maryland.
